AN EMPIRE BUILT TO LAST

It all started with a collapsed sand castle.

It was a treasured childhood memory that shaped Peter's future. His Aunt Maria, with whom he built sandcastles as a young boy, taught him that resilience is what leads to a fuller life.

Sandcastles are easily destroyed, but never the will to rebuild them.

Like sandcastles, life can knock you down, but you can always bounce back and start over. From an early age, Peter Handstein had a fascination with toys. He often says, "The reason I love toys is not the attraction to them, but the miracle of playing with them."
Had it not been for that toppled castle, Aunt Maria and her wise words, Peter would never have become the person he is today.

Decades later, that sandcastle-building boy became one of the toy industry's most enthusiastic entrepreneurs. Peter Handstein built his own sturdy castle: a toy empire called Hape AG, founded in Germany in 1986 and built to last.
