Infrared reflectography camera OPUS APOLLO
Apollo: the new benchmark in infrared reflectography
Apollo sets a new standard in infrared reflectography (IRR). Following in the footsteps of the renowned Osiris camera, Apollo uses an internal scanning mechanism to generate high resolution, high quality infrared reflectograms with an unmatched level of clarity and detail, offering more than 65,000 gray levels.
These images allow you to study different aspects of a painting, from changes in preliminary sketches and pentimenti to underpainting and pigment transmission at different wavelengths, using our Opus Instruments filter set. If you are looking to create detailed, high-quality infrared images, suitable even for scientific or artistic publications, Apollo is the ideal IR camera system.
Unlike the Osiris linear sensor, Apollo uses an area sensor to capture thousands of tiles (image fragments) that are automatically and seamlessly stitched together using our advanced image processing software.
This camera represents a significant improvement in dynamic range, capturing fine detail even in very light or dark areas of the artwork. An adjustable histogram within the software allows you to take full advantage of this dynamic range, both when viewing a reflectogram and when setting the lighting during capture.
Thanks to a variety of predefined exposure times, you can adapt the settings to your work and respond to the needs of each subject. This is especially useful if you use the Opus Filter Set, which allows you to study pigment transmission in different ranges within the spectral sensitivity of the camera.
Main technical features:
- High resolution (up to 26 MP)
- More than 65,000 gray levels
- Improved image quality thanks to high dynamic range (HDR)
- New customized software
- Advanced automatic tile stitching
- Adjustable histogram and image display
- 16-bit data to explore details in light and dark areas
- Real-time preview of each tile for faster focus and setup
The area sensor also enables a live preview of the current tile, which can be updated in real time, facilitating accurate focusing and significantly reducing setup time.
With a pixel pitch of 20 µm, Apollo captures high-resolution images in the same area as Osiris, taking advantage of sensor cooling to reduce noise. Using the entire sensor surface, an image of approximately 26 MP is obtained, which can be saved in various formats, including TIFF and PNG, to retain all data in a flexible manner.
The entire system comes packaged in a rugged flight case, maintaining Osiris portability and accessibility, so you're ready to work wherever your research takes you.
Apollo software features:
- 16-bit image format, output to TIFF, PNG, FIT (or 8-bit JPEG)
- Quick focus mode with numerical guidance
- Subject framing assistance with diagonal and vertical/horizontal lines
- Automatic dark frame capture at the beginning of each session to adjust the thermal signal
- In-application contrast and black/white adjustment, with option to export adjusted or original data
