Baader Herschel 2" Cool Ceramic Mark II Photo Prism - version 2022 - 2956510P
New version of the Baader Safety Herschel 2" Cool-Ceramic Mark II PHOTO Prism with Ceramic Sunseeker and 2 ClickLock® 2" Photo version incl. 4 ND 2" 0.6/0.9/1.8/3.0 filters and (NEW) Continuum 2" 7.5 nm Solar Filter, with case no. 2452115. This version also now includes the new version of the 7.5 nm Continuum 2" Solar Filter.
The Baader 2" Cool-Ceramic Safety Herschel Prism Mark II, available in visual and photographic versions, is the ultimate solution for white light solar observation and photography with refractors. Its advanced design allows the highest magnifications to be achieved without loss of sharpness, offering unsurpassed performance for demanding astronomers, both professional and advanced amateurs.
Uncompromising solar performance
The Baader Herschel prism uses only 4.6% of the incident light, which is then safely reduced by precision ND filters. This method provides extremely sharp images, with higher contrast than traditional frontal solar filters.
The model incorporates an integrated rotation mechanism for polarizing filters, the most effective way to adjust brightness during observation and astrophotography. Thanks to this technology, and in combination with a single polarizing filter (optional) and the included ND filter, continuous and precise brightness control is possible without the need to remove any filters when changing eyepieces.
Includes the 7.5 nm (540 nm) Solar Continuum filter
Both versions include the renowned 2" Baader Solar Continuum 7.5 nm filter, which dramatically enhances contrast, revealing details such as granules, sunspots, faculae and penumbras with exceptional sharpness. It is an essential complement to take full advantage of your refractor's true resolution.
Space-level thermal management and safety
The Cool-Ceramic system employs a sophisticated set of dissipative foils and a special ceramic plate that acts as an enclosed light trap, similar to space shuttle thermal tiles. This technology:
-
Dissipates heat extremely efficiently
-
Keeps the housing cool and stable
-
Eliminates glare or fire hazards
-
Allows completely safe use in private, educational and public environments
In addition, the ceramic plate functions as a solar finder, facilitating fast, accurate and safe aiming.
Premium mechanical design
-
2" ClickLock® outlet: firm locking with only 15° of twist, even when wearing gloves.
-
2" Safety Kerfs® inlet: maximum safety against slippage.
-
Integrated S58 dovetail: compatible with Baader M48, M68 and T-2 camera adapters.
-
3-point collimation system: factory set for optimum performance.
-
IP67 ABS hard case: protected transport even in demanding conditions.

The perfect choice for advanced solar photography, allowing precise control of luminous flux.
is a front solar filter necessary?
No. With the Baader Cool-Ceramic Herschel Prism and the pre-installed ND 3.0 filter, no additional objective filter is required for refracting telescopes. It is completely safe for solar observing as supplied.
Important note: Do not use on Petzval telescopes or instruments with optical elements near the focal plane. On classic refractors and apochromatic triplets, it is completely safe to use.
Solar observation with large aperture
Combined with telescopes equipped with front energy protection filters (such as the Baader Triband-SCT), the prism makes it possible to observe the Sun in white light even at apertures up to 11 inches, while maintaining exceptional image quality.
