Focal Reducer Takahashi 645RD QE0.72x for FSQ-106EDX4

The Takahashi 645RD QE0.72x is a high performance focal reducer designed to maximize the potential of the FSQ-106EDX4 telescope, an astrograph recognized worldwide by the most demanding astrophotographers. This optical accessory transforms the telescope into an even more powerful tool for capturing wide-field images of exceptional quality.

Thanks to its optical design of four lenses arranged in four groups, the reducer offers a resulting focal length of 380 mm (f/3.6), allowing for faster exposures and wider fields without sacrificing sharpness or image quality. The 60 mm diameter corrected image circle makes it ideal for medium-format sensors and full-frame cameras, offering more than 90% light coverage on 44 mm sensors and more than 70% at the extreme edges. Vignetting is virtually unnoticeable, even with cooled CCD or DSLR cameras.

One of the highlights of the 645RD is the improved chromatic correction, almost completely eliminating the violet aberration visible in previous models (such as the QE0.73x). Diffraction smear has been reduced by up to two-thirds compared to its predecessor, delivering perfectly spotted stars right to the edge of the field.

The lenses are treated with a broad-spectrum multi-layer coating, which significantly improves light transmission and reduces reflections and ghosting throughout the visible range, increasing contrast and color fidelity in astrophotography.

The installation of the reducer is unique: instead of being screwed to the focuser, it is connected directly to the rear optical group of the FSQ-106EDX4, allowing to maintain a more robust and stable system. For the classic FSQ-106ED version, the camera angle adjuster (TKP86200, optional) can be incorporated, replacing the extension ring TKA36582, making it easier to frame images.

With the 645 QE0.72X reducer, the FSQ-106EDX4 now offers two perfectly corrected settings for high-resolution astrophotography:

• 530 mm (f/5) with full image

• 380 mm (f/3.6) for wide field and medium-format sensors
