Focal Extender 2x Skywatcher Nomad 50.8mm Focal Extenders
The Sky-Watcher NOMAD range of high-performance telecentric focal extenders is designed for advanced amateur astronomers and astrophotographers who need to increase the magnification of their telescope without degrading optical quality. Unlike traditional Barlow, NOMAD extenders maintain stable and predictable optical performance in both visual observing and demanding astrophotography.
Available in several versions - NOMAD-2, NOMAD-4 and NOMAD-5 -this range covers different magnification factors, offering great flexibility of use and allowing the optical system to be adapted to different objects and configurations, from planetary observation to lunar imaging or high-sampling work.
Advanced telecentric optical design
The Sky-Watcher NOMAD extenders are based on a 4-lens optical design, specifically optimized to keep the beam parallel after magnification. This telecentric architecture preserves resolving power, contrast and field flatness, while very effectively reducing chromatic and geometric aberrations, even in high optical quality telescopes such as ED and APO refractors.
Unlike conventional Barlow, this type of extender does not alter the eye relief, avoiding the usual ergonomic problems at high magnifications. This performance is comparable to that of reference solutions such as the TeleVue Powermate, making the NOMAD range a technically sound alternative in its segment.
All optical surfaces feature full multi-coated anti-reflection coatings, which ensure high light transmission and a significant reduction of internal reflections. The edges of the lenses are blackened, minimizing stray light and improving overall image contrast.
Thanks to these features, NOMAD extenders are particularly suitable for observation and astrophotography of the Moon, planets and any object requiring a high level of sampling, both with CCD and CMOS cameras.
Mechanical construction and compatibility
The NOMAD range also stands out for its robust mechanical construction, with an all-metal, precision-machined body, ensuring optimal alignment and high stability during use. The barrels incorporate a self-centering clamping system with brass ring, which protects eyepieces and accessories from marks or scratches, while ensuring a firm and perfectly aligned fixation.
The NOMAD 2x and 4x models use a 2" (50.8 mm) coulant, with internal thread for filters of the same diameter, and are supplied with 1.25" (31.75 mm) adapters, extending their compatibility with a wide variety of eyepieces and accessories. In addition, they include M48 threaded adapters, facilitating their use in astrophotography with CCD or CMOS cameras.
(For SLR cameras a T-ring is required, not included.)
Captive screws prevent the loss of components during assembly or disassembly in the field, a practical detail especially appreciated in night sessions.
