Newton optical tube TS-Optics 12" f/4 UNC with fused quartz main mirror and carbon tube

Teleskop Service's UNC series is THE alternative to Far Eastern Newtonians, but also to high-end, high-cost instruments. UNC is an economical and uncompromising line of telescopes. UNC stands for Universal Newtonian telescope with carbon tube. Individually optimized, made in Germany!

The UNC 12" f/4 Newtonian is a transportable telescope for astrophotography. The fast f/4 focal ratio allows very deep images of galaxies and nebulae with short exposure times. We suggest the famous Skywatcher EQ8 Goto mount as a base for this large telescope. Also the Celestron CGX is an alternative, if you want to move the telescope.

Anti-reflective paint TS "Black" for maximum contrast

Many of our UNC Newtonian telescopes and all ONTCs use TS-Optics' "Black" anti-reflective paint. It darkens the inside of the tube as well as velvet sheeting. The illustration shows how dark the anti-reflective paint is. The diagram (in the images at the top of this page) shows the direct comparison between commonly used slate paint and anti-reflective paint.

Quartz glass mirror substrate:

Each material has its own coefficient of thermal expansion. This is essential for the mirror's reaction to temperature changes. The lower this coefficient of expansion, the less the mirror reacts to temperature changes. It is ready for use more quickly and, above all, focus drift is reduced during astrophotography.

The fused quartz bulk mirror has no recognizable dilation, making it superior to the popular Pyrex or Suprax bulk mirrors, similar to Zerodur. For this reason, a quartz glass mirror is especially suitable for astrophotography. Due to its excellent surface, we also recommend this mirror for building high-resolution Newtonian telescopes for visual observation.

Three focusing positions are possible:

Pos. 1 - Astrophotography with normal coma correctors - 65 mm distance from the 2" focuser connection (STANDARD version)

This version is perfect for almost all 2" Newtonian coma correctors like the Baader MPCC, TS Komakorrektor, GPU corrector, ASA Quattro, ... For visual observation, you will need a 35 mm 2" TSV235 extension tube.

Pos. 2 - Astrophotography with ASA 2" Reducer/Corrector - 90 mm distance from the 2" connection of the focuser

This version is made for the famous ASA 2KORRR Reducer and Corrector. The focal ratio will be reduced from f/4 to f/2.8 with a really good field correction.

Pos. 3 - Optimized for visual observation and TeleVue Paracorr VIP-2010 - 35 mm distance from the 2" focuser connection

This version is perfect for amateur astronomers looking for a telescope for visual observation. For this version you can also choose a 63 mm secondary mirror.

The focuser TS UNCN2-G2:

A centerpiece of the TS PowerNewtons is the advanced TS UNCN2-G2 focuser. The focuser supports heavy cameras without tilting thanks to oversized ball bearings and a side guide. Only with this short focuser could we optimize the focus position. Despite the high brightness, we managed with a secondary mirror of only 74 mm diameter on the small axis, which reduces contrast obstruction. Other features and advantages

Primary mirror fan to speed up cooling time:

We have chosen to equip this telescope with a fused quartz primary mirror and a cooling fan to accelerate the cooling time to room temperature. Until a mirror is properly cooled, it will create hot air currents that will deteriorate the image, regardless of which mirror substrate is used. Only after the mirror has cooled does this effect stop.

Parabolic primary mirror:

The parabolic primary mirror of this telescope is not made of cheap float glass, but of fused quartz without internal stresses. Its thermal properties are usually better than those of borosilicate glass. To facilitate collimation, the mirrors are properly centered.

You do not buy "a pig in a poke" but receive a telescope individually tested in auto collimation. Newtonian UNC telescopes are handmade telescopes "made in Germany".
