The Sky-Watcher Esprit 80EDX is a high-performance apochromatic refractor optical tube designed for demanding amateur astronomers and advanced astrophotographers. Thanks to its unique air-spaced triplet ED design , it delivers images with exceptional sharpness, contrast and color control comparable to professional optics.

The secret of the Esprit range lies in its high quality triplet ED lens with ED center glass from Hoya (Japan), recognized worldwide for its optical precision. The adjustable barrel improves optical alignment, an advantage over other manufacturers, ensuring superior performance in both planetary observation and astronomical photography.

Advanced optics and special treatments

Each optical surface of the Esprit 80EDX is treated withMetallic High-Transmission Coating (MHTC), reducing light loss and increasing contrast. This results in brighter and clearer images, with transmission close to 99.5%.

Optional field corrector

Thanks to an optional screw-in field corrector, the Esprit 80EDX achieves a flat image circle of up to 33 mm. The corrector incorporates two oversized 48 mm lenses, which eliminate internal reflections and provide a bright, uniform field. With it, the optics can work at their maximum aperture of f/5, ideal for capturing deep sky: from nebulae like Orion to galaxies like Andromeda, using CCD/CMOS or DSLR cameras.

Linear Power 11:1 focusing system

The Esprit 80EDX incorporates a rugged and accurate 2.7" (68.5 mm) Linear Power rack and pinion eyepiece carrier with 11:1 reduction ratio. This system allows millimeter focusing, essential for astrophotography, even with large sensors. The sliding tube has a steel rail with four ball bearings, ensuring smooth, vibration-free movement. In addition, it features a graduated scale and focus lock, as well as a 360° rotating eyepiece holder, maintaining focus as it rotates.

Construction and quality

The optical tube is made of high-precision CNC machined steel with no plastic parts, ensuring superior durability and aesthetics. The interior is baffled and blackened to minimize stray light and improve contrast.
